Copal: The Significance of Copal to the Maya and Garifuna People of Belize is Mary Ellen’s original, never-before-published research. Drawing from interviews, firsthand experience, and research, she weaves a thread through centuries in the Yucatan, creating a pattern of copal use in early and current Maya ceremonies and offering a glimpse into this important, ancient culture.
Founded in 2005, The Jolly Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) private, non-profit organization created to support and protect the environment with a particular interest in the protection of the sea turtles and land conservation, to support the arts, and to support brain injury.
Our founding inspiration is Mary Ellen McKee, who was majoring in Earth Systems at Stanford University when she suffered a traumatic brain injury in October of 2002.
